Regional trainings on advocating for VAT and import duty exemptions for National Renewable Energy Associations (NREAs)
Summary

Kuungana led work to deliver training on import duty and VAT exemptions to solar industry associations across Africa. The training gave associations an update on the ‘state of play’ on taxes affecting the industry. The focus of the workshops was on advocacy strategies for securing tax exemptions. This included covering methodologies for quantifying the benefits that tax exemptions might help to unlock, as well as covering some of the practical challenges in implementing exemptions, such as the coding of systems under the Harmonised System (HS).
